WHAT IS CRYOTHERAPY
The term “Cryotherapy” comes from the Greek cryo (κρυο) meaning cold, and therapy (θεραπεια) meaning cure. Originally developed in Japan in 1978 to treat rheumatoid arthritis, Cryotherapy, cold therapy, is now used world-wide for health and wellbeing, fitness and sport, and beauty and anti-aging.
A Cryo Session involves the participant stepping into a Cryosauna where they will wear the appropriate protective wear, including gloves, socks and slippers (supplied by us). A very cool mist set at approximately -150 degrees will surround the participants body, from the neck down, for 1.5 minutes to 3 minutes.
The main goal of Cryotherapy is to decrease cell growth and reproduction (cellular metabolism), increase cellular survival, decrease inflammation, decrease pain and spasm, promote the constriction of blood vessels (vasoconstriction), and when using extreme temperatures, to destroy cells by crystallizing the cytosol, which is the liquid found inside cells, also known as intracellular fluid (ICF).
